Summary: We had a wonderful relaxing holiday with our families (toddlers and grandparents and our siblings ) at this house and can only recommend it. When we arrived late on Saturday eve we were greeted by the owner and her daughter, they showed us the house and had stocked the fridge and kitchen so we had everything for a nice breakfast next morning and showed us where the supermarkets were and that they were open on Sunday! There also was a basket with wonderful fruits and local home made products! The house has two separate living spaces : a seperate 2 bedroom flat with great views from the balcony upstairs with a separate entrace at the back of the house, and 2 bed rooms downstairs (1 dpuble bed and 1 with 3 single beds) and a bath and large living/dining area that leads onto a large Terrace with a great seating area and enough space for the toddlers to play in the shade. The garden is great for kids as it is closed securely on all sides so they can't run off or onto the beach on their own. The central faux lawn circle in the garden with the lounge chairs was also a great hit with the kids as it was soft to roll around and with lots of stuff to climb on and discover. We spent 2 weeks at the house and we and the kids had a fantastic time. The pebble beach at the end of the garden is a nice secluded cove and there are steps from the garden that lead onto the pebble beach so it wasn't a problem for our 70 year old parents either. The house is situated between fields and a farm and it had a rural feel to it, although it took only 5-10 minutes to walk to the next supermarket, pharmacy or restaurant. In the evenings we either cooked ourselves or we went to Taverna Eleven, a short walk away. The food there was great and not expensive and as it was right on the beach one had fantastic views of the sunset, and it had a small play ground with a slide and some swings to keep the little ones entertained. The drive into Rethymno took about 15-20 minutes from the house and visiting the old town, harbour and castle was lovely. So taken together, we were looking for a relaxed natural and secluded holiday right on the beach for all our extented family and it was absolutely the right place for us! Nothing beats walking up to the sea in your pyjamas and drinking a cup of morning coffee talking to your brother sitting on the steps to the beach. Perfect chilling out!
