The holiday house is in the Gorski Kotar mountain region in Croatia, right by the Kupa River, just 60km from the sea. It is in a quiet, almost abandoned village called Doluš, which is surrounded by a forested area.

The location is ideal for people who are coming to Gorski Kotar to visit the nature reserves, such as Risnjak National Park with many waymarked hiking trails, and trip destinations such as Zeleni Vir, Vražji Prolaz, Lokvarka, and other caves such as Kamačnik, Golubinjak, the source of the Kupa and Kupica Rivers etc. It is also ideal for fishermen, hunters, kayakers, climbers, hikers, or simply families who would like to enjoy the quiet surroundings by the forest, far away from traffic and stress.
The next biggest town is Brod na Kupi, 5km away, where you can find restaurants, shops, a bakery and a post office. Delnice is the nearest locality with a hospital, shops, two supermarkets, and in winter an ice rink, sledging, a ski resort and swimming pool. The house is accessible by car. The nearest bus or train stations are in Brod na Kupi, Delnice and Skrad.
The village of Doluš is rich in history, stretching back to when the village was full of life. Now many locals have moved into the larger towns. In the 19th century it was attempted to make the Kupa River navigable for small merchant ships and the traces of this can still be seen. The river and the old villages in the area have many interesting things to see. In the neighbouring village of Kocjani there is the St. Peter and St. Paul Church, which has services on Sundays. The interior is old and features a style no longer seen today. The nature is clean and intact and most of the farmland is overgrown by forest. The flora and fauna is rich and diverse and some protected species live here. The Kupa river valley is also known as Butterfly Valley, as so many types of butterfly have found a safe habitat here.
