Have fun with the whole family at our stylish home. 2 minutes' walk from Babbacombe Downs and the Oddicombe Cliff Railway to the gorgeous Oddicombe and Babbacombe beaches.
After a great day at the beach, come home to a barbecue and chill out and bubble in the hot tub or pop out to the lively Babbacombe Downs for a whole range of restaurants and bars and lively entertainment. If you fancy a show there, is always the exquisite Babbacombe theatre. Then there's the rest of Torquay on your doorstep!
Supermarkets
The nearest supermarket is the Co-op in Wellswood. The Range is a 2-minute walk as you turn left out of the house. Also if you turn right it is a 5-minute walk to Babbacombe Downs above Babbacombe and Oddicombe beach, where there is range of shops including Spar and a large Tesco Express. Then a further 5-minute walk into St Marychurch shopping precinct there is a large Co-op shop and a Sainsbury's store.
Local Restaurants
Babbacome has a beautiful range of pub restaurants along the Downs overlooking the sea. Babbacombe Inn is famous for its Sizzlers Rump Steak/Cajun Chicken/Gammon & Egg each for a bargain £9.95 coming on those sizzling hot plates and they also have a very good vegetarian menu. The Buccaneer Inn, also on Babbacombe Downs, is a very friendly pub and The Masons Arms, only a two-minute walk from the house towards the Downs, has a great value Carvery and two for one meal offers during the week. The nearby Divers Arms Gastro Pub has a lovely beer garden and backs onto Walls Hill, which is a lovely grassy area for coastal walks. In Babbacome the "I am Thai" takeaway is good value for money as is the nearby Mirch Masala Indian restaurant and takeaway. Our favourite in Babbacombe is the Ben Mei Chinese takeaway. Pizza lovers will delighted to know there is the local Yummies Kebab and Pizza House and the international chains are Papa John's and Domino's are in the very nearby Plainmoor and St. Marychurch respectively. The pride of Babbacombe though are the two fish and Chip shops, Hanbury's and Drakes's, both of which have won national awards on numerous occasions. The only bad thing is the queues! If you are looking to spoil yourselves, you will find Angels' Tea Rooms with its array of cream teas tempting for everyone. And if you fancy a cheeky ice-cream, there's no better place than at the Babbacombe Downs Cliff Railway Cafe, which as its name implies, overlooks the Oddicombe beach cliff railway. Now if eating and drinking on the beach is your thing I would wholeheartedly recommend Three degrees West for a magnificent view of Oddicombe beach whilst having breakfast. a little bit more upmarket is the Cary Arms and Spa, which provides all you could expect and more from a beachfront inn. If you leave the car at home, which you certainly can, as these are all just five minutes away on foot, you can walk the excess pounds off as it is uphill from the beach back to the Downs! All this and it is only a 5 minute drive straight down Babbacombe Road to Torquay Harbour, Marina and all the shops, restauarants and activities there.
Local Attractions
In the local vicinity all walkable: as mentioned for restaurants and bars I would certainly visit the Babbacombe Downs for lovely cliff top views above Babbacomebe beach and Oddicombe beach, where you can enjoy a trip on the Oddicombe Cliff Railway. In Babbacombe there is Babbacombe Model Village that's equally as famous for its glorious gardens that help to set it aside as one of Europe's Premier Model Villages. St Marychurch has Bygones which has three floors of pure nostalgia for ALL AGES! A mere 10 minute drive walk to the district of Wellswood is Kents Cavern a prehistoric cave, home of ancient humans, and award winning visitor attraction that rivals Cheddar Gorge.. For sports enthuiasts, Torquay United play all their home games 10 minutes' walk away at Plainmoor and next to the groud is a twenty-five metre indoor swimming pool and indoor bowls centre. For the braver outdooor sports' enthusiasts at Cary Park in Babbacombe there are the tennis courts and outdoor bowls greens and Petitor Golf Club. Looking at seawater activity Oddicombe beach is a great spot for kayaking and Stand Up paddleboarding as well as windsurfing and babbacombe beach, with its small pier and rocks is popular and great for fishing. There is a local gym called One Vision Fitness in Babbacombe too which has very reasonable rates and if you are looking for something bigger, there is Winners 2000 gym, which is just a five-minute drive away. Again don't forget it is just a five-minute drive to the harbour end of town and all the boat trips and water activities you could think of.
Trains
The nearest train station is Torre train station which is just a 10-minute drive away which is itself a five-minute drive from the principal Torquay train station on the main Torquay sea front.
Buses
The nearest bus stop is a 3-minute walk just past the Range when you turn left onto Babbacombe Road. You can take the 22 bus, among others, to the harbourside/town area. Buses usually run every 20 mins and go round the bay to Paignton and Brixham as well.
