Summary: We had a lovely stay at this stunningly restored property in Paguignan. After a five day climbing trip in the Haute Pyrennes, we spent our second at week at Paguignan, mostly touring around the area with visits to Carcassonne, Narbonne, Beziers, gorging in the local dried rivers and wine tasting at the local family winery. It was always lovely to return to this uniquely restored winemakers property at the end of our busy days with the exquisite interior design the focal point of the property. So many things are provided to ensure our stay was more than comfortable, from lovely fluffy towels, cosy beds ( loft room needs a bed , currently only mattress, not ideal for our 6 ft 3 teenager!!) to limitless kitchen utensils, a washing machine, (although not working when we arrived, was swiftly replaced with a new one on day 5 of our trip,) so lots of hand washing before hand, but Jane was very proactive in replacing this as soon as she could and we managed to do one load before we left for our next destination. The showers were great and the fans in both bedrooms were a great relief to have when it got to hot at night. There was also the skylight windows that opened up remotely to let the cool air flow around the loft room. We loved the projector screen to watch movies when we returned to the property, exhausted but early enough, with a lovely selection of dvd's. Our biggest frustration was the almost non-existent Wifi, an absolute must when you run your own business, and although on vacation, still have to respond to emails and business issues and also when you have two teenagers who like to stay in touch with friends. Also, sadly noise and cigarette smoke pollution from the neighbours (both very lovely people), who had their grandchildren, family and friends to visit during our vacation, so eating breakfast outside on the balcony was sometimes awkward with cigarette smoke blowing our way (ok, maybe if you are a smoker I guess, of which we are not). The locally advertised wild swimming was something we were going to try however the pools were full of locals and so a little off putting, and some of the rivers were dry so not possible to do. The closet beach is Narbonne, so this is really not the place for those wishing to have a beach holiday. My husband ended up having to do a lot of driving to get to places, however we still absolutely loved the property and would encourage anyone wishing for a quiet restful week to choose this gem of a place!
