There’s another excellent beach here, and from the harbour, you can book a boat trip to see the Farne Islands and their puffins. While in the area, try some kippers from Craster, just 8.5 miles away, or head to one of the many renowned castles, including Bamburgh (5.5 miles) and Alnwick (13 miles). There’s a choice of places to sit, a handy line on which to air-dry wet suits and swimming gear, and a useful external laundry room, which also offers a secure space in which to store bikes or bags. If you or your pet are covered in sand after a day on the beach, you can use the outside tap and hose to rinse off.
