Summary: We arrived at the property to find the door unlocked and lights on. It was clean. But right away we felt unsafe because the neighborhood didn’t look safe. We probably should’ve called the police. Also, There was garbage left at the edge of the driveway. See picture it had been there a while - smelly and lots of flies. The host was good at communicating and apologizing, but the garbage wasn’t picked up until the time we were leaving two days later. There were no check in/or check out procedures. So no code for the door lock or even how it worked. It became difficult to communicate with him when he doesn’t even live in the area and he couldn’t call me. We were communicating thru inbox on Vrbo. So we figured out how the lock worked on our own and left for the evening. Upon return at 3am the lock was not working and the ring doorbell didn’t work either. We were stuck outside. So by chance tried the garage door and it was unlocked. At that point we realized we could’ve been robbed. That was not a good feeling. That morning the host called 2 maintenance guys and they came mid afternoon and replaced the batteries in the lock. That’when we were given a code to lock the door. Just don’t understand why this wasn’t given to us at check-in. I guess the only good thing was that he didn’t stop communicating with us and he did apologize. But our safety ( 9 women) was very upsetting and having to smell the discussing trash every time we went to our car.
