3 Bedroom House in Winesburg
Chestnut Log House was built in Winesburg, OH in 1829, when Andrew Jackson was President of the United States. Settlers were just moving into Ohio and established the village that year, and while much has changed over the decades it hasn’t lost its small-town charm.
The three-bedroom home has a good-sized dining room with table and chairs, and a living room area with chairs and sofas on one side of the hallway, and a den with sofas, a TV, and a fireplace (nonfunctioning) on the other side. The main floor has 1-1/2 baths and a laundry room off of the spacious kitchen, and you will find three bedrooms and a full bath upstairs.
The Chestnut Log House can accommodate up to 11 guests, and the entire place is yours along with the beautiful and relaxing garden and patio area! Note the original, hand-hewn log walls, which are also visible on the inside along with open-beam ceilings. The owners have taken great care to maintain the original character and appeal of this home while making it comfortable and convenient with modern day appliances.
We welcome families to stay here but please note that the open staircase and many antique decorations might not be ideal for small children.
You will be staying next to the old-fashioned Whitmer’s General Store, with their pizza shop and the best homemade ice cream around. There is also an antique shop next door, a locally owned café/breakfast nook just a few houses down the street, and a public park directly behind the property.
A small rural town in the heart of Ohio’s Amish/Mennonite community, Winesburg’s Main Street sees many bikes and horse drawn buggies along with cars. You will be situated between Wilmot and it’s well-known Amish Door Restaurant five miles to the northeast, and Berlin, the hub of Ohio’s famous Amish tourist attractions seven miles to the southwest, with Mt. Hope and it’s Mt. Hope Event Center five miles west. Walnut Creek and Sugarcreek, with their famous attractions and restaurants are also nearby. You can’t travel far on these rural roads without seeing one or more one-room Amish schoolhouses and you might even see our Amish friends working their fields with teams of horses.
The Chestnut Log House is next to The Chestnut Barn and the two units can be rented together for a special price when available.
