Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: A short walk to the city centre (900 m) and Liberdade station. Comfortable apartment. Cafes, restaurants nearby .

Negative: Slightly run down area with a homeless hostel across the road and soup kitchen nearby. Sometimes men standing in the Forrest smoking waiting for hostel to open in the evening having to be asked to move to gain entrance to the main entrance. Police and ambulances in attendance twice during the 5 days we were there for presumed problems in the hostel. Overall this was not a major issue for us but the site of numerous men walking around in the underwear first thing in the morning was slightly alarming for my wife.
